Do any plus sized folks have any tips for how to use trans tape? I have DD (maybe bigger) and I just tried using it for the first time, got frustrated almost instantly (while following one of the official TT videos meant for bigger chests), and am now double binding trying not to break down.
Any tips would be seriously so appreciated, I just want to be able to wear 90% of my clothes on a bad dysphoria day without my chest hurting or having trouble breathing or whatever else

I’m a short, plus size trans guy. I have a pretty hard time with masc clothing due to it not fitting right or at least not how I wish it did. Fem clothes usually fit how I want them to so I stick with them, plus skirts are fun and surprisingly help with the bottom dysphoria cause there’s no indent of where my dick should be like pants do, so I have 2 questions.
1: is it ok for me as a trans guy to still be upset when misgendered while wearing feminine clothing?
2: any advice on how to find masc clothes that fit properly on a fat and short guy?
hello there, thanks for taking the time to ask this! sorry for the delayed reply, but i hope you've been doing well in the mean time!
it is absolutely okay for you to be upset for being misgendered regardless of what clothing you're wearing; cisgender people get misgendered while wearing their preferred clothing, as well, many butch women get misgendered and called men when they are very much women who prefer to dress, act and look masculine. cisgender men often get misgendered if they choose to wear feminine clothing, or even men's clothing that's too "fruity". if cisgender people can get upset over this, you can too.
i feel like it's 200% impossible to know what a stranger's gender is just by looking at them and that as a society we would truly progress if we stopped assuming the genders of strangers by how they dress and avoid using gendered terms until that person reveals that information, if they so choose.
as for where to find clothing that would fit well, this one can be a bit tricky. i am tall and fat, i'm about 5' 8" and 280 lbs, so i unfortunately haven't much experience in the height department on that end, but i can tell you that wearing men's pants can be a bit tricky if you have wide hips. i have 48" hips and it can make wearing men's pants uncomfortable. if you haven't already, measure your hips (at their fullest point) and your inseam, which is the length from the crotch of your pants to the bottom of the pantleg. men's pants are sized by these two measurements, with the hip width being the first number and the inseam length being the second. my example for myself is that i wear 48x32 men's pants whenever i do buy them.
here's a guide on measuring your inseam:
here's a guide on men's clothing sizes (in both inches and centimeters) and how to measure yourself for different garments:
i will say that in the past i've thrifted most of my clothing. i'd like to be able to get to a place where i can buy myself some new clothes but up until this point most of my clothes have been thrifted. i will say if you live in a smaller area finding good clothing in plus sizes is a nightmare and you have my condolences. however i can suggest looking into men's fashion and seeing what styles you like to get an idea of what kinds of clothes you're looking for. before transitioning into buying clothes from the men's section you can always look to see if there are similar cuts of clothing (like cargo pants, for example) that are sold in the women's section for the sake of finding clothes that fit your proportions a little better at least until it's easier to figure out what size men's clothes fit you
most shirts and tops shouldn't be too much of an issue as they're made to be pretty loose fitting and don't conform to one's figure- if sleeves are too long they can be hemmed or rolled up, tails of shirts can be tucked into pants, etc. be very careful with button-up style shirts, these fit me so weird due to being intersex and i find that a lot of bigger people in general don't fit into them super well. they're not made for our proportions they just size up the shirts made for thin people and don't take into consideration how our bellies, chests and shoulders look.
button up shirts (when buttoned up, lol) can also make one's chest more prominent and create stress on the buttons that draw the eyes to the chest- i never button up these types of shirts and instead wear them open. this is a very masculine look, especially with a men's t-shirt underneath. this was my go-to in my early days of transition.
as for specific stores to look at, this will vary wildly depending on where you are in the world. i would recommend being highly cautious of buying mens' clothing from places online like Amazon, Temu, Wish, etc. that have a lot of China-based sellers, because often times you will see a 2XL+ garment and buy it thinking it will fit only to realize that that is Chinese sizing and therefore much smaller. shopping online for clothes while fat can be very hard, so i urge you to shop in person when possible
anyone have more concrete suggestions for this guy? i'm totally blanking on good suggestions of where to look for clothes.
good luck out there, stay safe, and take care of yourself. i hope you're able to find more clothing that helps you feel like yourself! thanks for stopping by

I don't talk about my experience with gender dysphoria a whole bunch.
However, I need to put this somewhere.
TW: Vent + Discussion of Gender Disphoria/Maybe minor transphobia? (I'm unsure to be honest, but putting that just in case)
I'm trans Non-Binary Demi-Girl. Most days I'm okay with my feminity and I like to lean that direction. I only experience dysphoria occasionally, and wish that I could shape-shift to present myself more androgynously at times. I don't always hate my chest, and I'm not looking to go for any medical treatments as that's not for me, and I'm decently happy with my body. However, today was a day that dysphoria came in and kicked me. Now I'm just lying on the floor, stuck and unsure what to do...
I have a binder but it isn't the most effective...As I'm a plus sized person...I also got trans tape but... I'm too nervous to use it again for various reasons... (I liked it for the most part too! So it wasn't that it was uncomfortable. Did have major anxiety though like I should be doing it/using it.)
I'm just really struggling today... My hair also has grown out again but it's only been like a month and like two weeks since my last haircut. I have trouble justifying getting one so soon...but the dysphoria is really driving me crazy right now...
Being Non-Binary is the most confusing thing for me. One minute, I'm okay being feminine. The other, I wish I were more androgynous... I just feel trapped... and restricted by how others perceive/how they're comfortable seeing me... I know it's not their choice, but... It hurts when these people mean so much to me... The worst part is... they're not transphobic! I know they aren't, and they've shown it through their actions..but...when it comes to me... I feel need to please them and dress/style myself how they like to see me. They don't even ask me to do that. They encourage me to do what makes me happy, even if they don't really prefer certain looks. Fuck I wish this wasn't so complicated....
I don't know what to do right now I just feel so stuck. I feel like I'm on the verge of a meltdown and it's driving me nuts. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😭

why can’t i be like the other boys - pandora rosier
Tumblr media
summary - yn is feeling major dysmorphia. pandora helps them and makes a deal to help with it.
warnings - panic attacks, body dysmorphia, crying. i think that’s it.
a/n - if there are any trans people or plus size people struggling with body dysmorphia, please do not read this right now as there are very negative thoughts mentioned in this post. my dms are open if anyone wants to talk.
post number - 9
word count - 839
reader - trans male, pre-transition, plus sized.
you and stared into your mirror; why couldn’t you just be like the other boys. why were you born in the wrong body? why couldn’t you just be flat? all of the thoughts racing around your head were getting to you.
‘you’re too fat.’
‘you’re not a real boy.’
‘they’ll never treat you like the other guys.’
‘deadname’
‘a real boy has a flat chest’
all of the false information in your head drove you nuts; tears fell from your eyes to the floor faster than you could say ‘expelliarmus’. your breathing got faster and your breath became heavier.
the salty tears fell onto your lips, making it harder to focus on your breathing.
suddenly, the door to your dorm room opened, and you couldn’t even control your emotions enough to bother trying to hide what was happening from which ever one of your roommates came in.
“yn? what’s wrong?” the familiar voice of pandora rosier spoke to you, “what happened?”
pandora sat down next to you and immediately pulled you into a hug.
“what’s going on?” she quickly realised that you couldn’t breathe properly and pulled away from you.
she held your hands, giving you a soft squeeze of reassurance that everything would be okay.
“deep breaths, okay?” her soft voice rang, your ears were ringing, and her face was spinning softly and had duplicated by now.
“inhale, exhale.”
you followed her breathing pattern, slowing down your breathing, bringing it back to normal, along with your vision and hearing.
“that’s better. can you tell me what’s wrong? it’s okay if you’re not comfortable talking about it. i’m here to talk - or just to listen if you need me though. always.”
you open your mouth to speak but no words come out, just a small squeak. you sighed, as tears came to your eyes again.
this time pandora pulled you into a tight hug, knowing you needed it, and softly rubbed your back.
“everything’s gonna be okay, yn. i’m here for you.”
you pulled away, now ready to talk, “i hate myself- im not a real boy, and i never will be, nothings gonna change that. i can’t make myself flat - i’ve tried it all, binders, spells that are too difficult for me to do, tape, clingfilm, literally everything and nothing works.” you ranted.
pandoras eyes softened, listening to your voice break as you spoke, “why don’t the binders work? i thought they were meant to be one of the best things?”
“they are!” you accidentally raised your voice, “sorry. i- they-“
“it’s okay. i’m listening.”
“i’m too fat. they don’t fit me. even the large sizes. i hate that nowhere does bigger sizes than a large and i hate myself for not fitting into the biggest size.”
“please don’t talk about yourself like that. you really shouldn’t use the word fat as a way to insult yourself. it’s not a bad word, you know?” pandora reassured, “it’s just a word that people try to make sound bad, but it’s not, it’s just a word. you are perfect no matter how you look. yes, you’re a plus size guy, but do you realise how many men are too? millions! take peter as an example, he’s plus size - he doesn’t care; i know you’re not him, but if you just look at how happy he is, you can be that happy, just don’t let your body bother you. your body is beautiful no matter how big, or small it is.”
your mouth opened in awe, you didn’t know what to say, “but i’m not flat either, peter can’t relate to that.”
“how about this, if you can do one thing for me, i’ll measure you and make you a binder that fits you perfectly?”
“what’s the one thing?” you asked, concerned it would be something you couldn’t do.
“every day when you wake up, say something nice about yourself, maybe a couple things, doesn’t matter if you don’t mean it. you don’t even have to believe it. just say it. eventually you’ll trick your brain into believing the things you don’t believe and you’ll thing good things about yourself.”
you chuckled, “you don’t really thing that works, do you.”
“it does.” pandora raised her point, “i do it all the time, have been since i was a kid. and i got reggie doing it - he used to despise himself, and the way he looks. he hated that he wasn’t flat for so long, even though he is now cause of the spells he learnt, he wasn’t for a long time, but he learnt to love his body even before, and after, by saying nice things to himself.”
“okay. i’ll do it.”
pandora’s smiles beamed, “excellent! i’ll get making your binder first thing saturday. so only a few days; i should have it done by monday or tuesday!”
you pulled her into a tight hug, squeezing her slightly, “thank you.” you whispered.
“no problem.”
“i love you, pandora. you’re the best friend i could ever ask for.”

tips for dealing w dysphoria!!
this might not help everyone, but these are some tips n tricks that have helped me w dysphoria! 1. clothes!! if u can't get gender affirming clothes, try ur best to get gender neutral clothes!! if you're ftm like me, i suggest wearing your trousers quite low, even if they're not designed to be low waisted, it helps hide any hip curves!! n baggy shirts help me too, to hide anything my binder doesnt. i go to a support group for trans kids, and they have a free clothes rack, you can donate clothes or take clothes and they won't tell ur family or anything. even charity shops/thrift stores are good! if you dont like the clothes there or can't afford them, dont be afraid to ask your friends! the worst thing they can do is say no, unless you're not out to them
2. binding/tucking/packing,, i've found that binding and packing are some of the best ways to feel more at home in my body, but binders can be expensive, and cheap ones arent usually very good for you. i'd suggest body tape for my trans boys blessed with small chests, it doesnt really bind, but it holds things in place! u can watch tutorials on youtube but i'll link one just for u right here! the actual tutorial starts at around 1:36. https://youtu.be/Itzspq5K0z8
as for packing, you can buy an actual packer, or just use a balled up pair of socks! it might not make much difference but honestly just knowing i have that bulge has helped me a lot! i used to use socks, and it's quite easy to use, but remember they're there when you use the toilet,, ive dropped mine in countless times. i use a packer now and i love it so much, it adds the perfect bulge for me, and i wear boxers with a sort of pocket at the front to hold it in place!
when it comes to tucking i dont have any experience, but if you do a bit of research im sure you can find something!! just whatever you do....DONT USE DUCT TAPE!!!!!! that applies to all of u honestly. with stuffing a bra or something, you can buy adhesive silicone bra fillers from basically any store that sells female clothes! they'll add at least a little bit of cup size and if you have a bra, it'll make your chest look perkier and help fill it out a bit! plus once again, socks work for that! you can fold them, roll them, whatever you find works best!
3. friends!!!!!!!!! GET URSELF GOOD AND CONFIDENT FRIENDS!!! if ur out to people irl, and you get misgendered in public with friends, it can be so so uncomfortable to correct people! if you have confident friends/partners, you should ask that they correct people for you! you shouldnt have to go through any of it alone <3
more about friends !! find friends who are similar to you, but opposite! as a trans boy, i have quite a few mtf friends, and i've given my old clothes/bras etc to them, and they've given me boxers, shirts, and colognes!!
i really hope this has helped a bit!! dont stress yourself out, im here for anything you need and i'm always willing to help <3

super super unhinged rainbow magic post 9 of 12
If you thought the creation of an entire backstory for Bethany the Ballet Fairy was extreme please brace yourself further it’s gonna get EVEN BETTER
SPORTS FAIRIES
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Helena
She do be riding horses doe - she’s doing the dressage babey and she’s a successful medal winner!
This is top quality shit man
Favourite part: sparkly boots!!!
Least favourite part: kill me the necklaces are back
Cute hairnet tho we love some safety!
Francesca
First braids! Whoop whoop! However some of the beads are not attached to her braids lmao
I want the hair to be a darker brown colour as well tbh
Necklace ew murder murder death death death
Shoes don’t match her outfit and it HURTS
Apart from that the outfit is basic but cute (crop makes it cute)
Pulls off the knee-high footie socks surprisingly well
Tumblr media
HEADCANONS:
Dynamic attacker (not defender thank you very much), she kisses her girlfriend on the field, and she plays for brazil
Tumblr media
Zoe
YESSSSSSS THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL DYNAMIC
Why is her left skate so fat has she broken + taped her ankle? This is canon now that she has, bitch has broken EVERY bone possible
The fingerless gloves are INCREDIBLE
I’m glad about the lack of elbow guards because they would reduce the pointiness of her elbows which are the single most effective murder weapon in fairyland
I love the stars! It’s so 80s and cheesy and I love them!
Why is her necklace a roller skate wheel though (rolls eyes)
Dyed hair?? A queen
A great red
She dyed it to match her skates!
COMMITTED TO HER SPORT also she has a trophy wall plus she roller-derby-murders women in her spare time and she’s happy about it
HEADCANONS:
Naomi - there is no netball in the united states (there is no war in ba sing se)
Can’t believe that this girl has bunches, ribbons AND a headband!!! It’s overkill imo
The necklace is a decent size but AS PER FUCKIN USUAL would be better if not there
Trainers are cute
It’s a netball outfit! At least it’s cuter than my high school netball outfits, but that’s because it’s a middle-class-ass netball outfit but I do like the peppiness
Strong use of colour! Thumbs up!
Tumblr media
Trans girl that secretly wants to be a horse girl (gasp but like fair enough horses are objectively cooler than netball, even though she plays for the school team)
Hey you definitely Do Not Remember Bethany the Ballet Fairy’s chin shape but Naomi has the same one which means SHE IS BETHANY’S LITTLE SISTER
HEADCANONS:
Samantha (swimming)
The grey streaks are perplexing cos surely she’s not Old but honestly she is kinda rocking it, I love the hair but you Know it’s full of salt at all times
The use of goggles as a headband is decently cute!
Why does it have to be a two-piece if it’s going to cover the same amount of torso as a one-piece? I guess it makes going to the loo easy tho tbf
Very 2000s design omg
Fucking skirt could be cute but you can tell it feels so horribly artifical
Anklet is cute!
Barefoot QUEEN in tune with nature
Mum friend - she is the sunscreen queen, she has an straw beach bag entirely full of snacks, and she is so nice and chill
She is not a professional swimmer AT ALL, she just goes to the swimming pool at the resort every year
Possibly the only straight fairy (experimented once with a girl but mainly likes men)
She knows breaststroke and doggy paddle and she thinks doggy paddle is a stroke
Everyone else is super fucking stressed out at the pool doing like actual lengths and exercise and Samantha is like do you want to come and do backflips with me in the deep end?
Tumblr media
HEADCANONS:
Alice
The swirls are so cute! She definitely embroidered them herself
I want it to be a dress with a slightly higher waistline instead of a top with an overly long torso
Great job on a matching tennis racket that goes with your accessories - she painted it, DIY queen
Hair is BEAUTIFUL
Shoes are from the year 3000 omg so modernnnnn
The lil visor thing! Adorable! SO iconic
Alice is Naomi’s twin sister and Bethany’s younger sister, and she’s a massive girly girl. She’s the youngest child in the family, there’s not much pressure on her so she’s a chill kid. She’s cis and she’s a massive ally. Alice is absolutely the most likely out of everyone to go to the swimming pool with Samantha - Bethany never comes with her but 50% of the time Alice can get Naomi to come and hang out at the pool
Tumblr media
Gemma
RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS REPRESENTATION BABEY with the HOOPS and the RIBBON hell YEAH she definitely competes internationally
Outfit is bloody beautiful and it MATCHES HER HOOP
The yellow leggings are stupid but I like them
Her hair is in competition mode rn it is a good SOLID bun - the ribbon is for aesthetic only
Colour scheme showing support for Ukraine
Necklace is NOT gymnastics worthy full stop

Had this really handy sized crate/tray/thing with Harry Potter branding, which… y’know, I’m a trans man. So having it sat on my shelf didn’t feel great.
But! It was so useful I didn’t want to throw it out… so I spent my Sunday sanding it down and repainting it and now it makes me smile every time I see it. Plus I have somewhere to put all my washi tape. (So much washi tape)
(In retrospect I should have bought blue, pink, and white paint but I didn’t think of that until I was done.)

Find Freedom in Your Identity: Our Top Picks for the Best Binders for Female-to-Male Transgender Individuals!
Finding the perfect binder can be a difficult challenge for anyone, and that's especially the case for transgender males. Chest binders are an important part of transitioning and provide both physical and mental health benefits to transmasculine individuals. They are especially important when you think about all of the harmful options that people use instead, including duct tape and ace bandages, that should never be used for chest binding. But with binders, there are so many different kinds, shapes, sizes, and styles out there on the market, it can prove hard to choose which one is right for you!
We have done extensive research into this subject area to make your shopping experience easier by bringing together a comprehensive guide of our top picks for the best binders specifically designed with female-to-male (FTM) transgender people in mind. Read on to find out more about these awesome options!
What is a Chest Binder for FTM Individuals?
A chest binder is a type of chest compression garment specifically designed for gender nonconforming individuals, particularly those who identify as transgender female-to-male (FTM) folks, though anyone can wear one if they so desire. The purpose of a chest binder is to flatten the appearance of one’s chest, providing gender expression that better aligns with gender identity. This does wonders for improving self-esteem and confidence among trans people who experience significant levels of chest dysphoria. Binders are typically made out of stretchy fabric, allowing them to be comfortable and accommodating to different sizes while still providing necessary compression.
Chest binders have been used safely by gender nonconforming individuals for decades and have recently become more accessible due to businesses that produce gender-affirming clothing. Chest binders serve to play an important role in helping gender nonconforming people express themselves authentically, in addition to helping alleviate the harrowing symptoms associated with gender dysphoria.
The Best Chest Binder for FTM
Several brands of chest binders are available that cater specifically to the needs of trans men and other individuals who choose to bind their chests. The following are a few of the very best binder companies that trans folks looking for their first binder should check out.
Underworks Ultra Flat Chest Binder
Underworks Ultra Flat Chest Binder is perhaps the most popular chest binder for those who belong to the FTM transgender community. This type of chest binder is designed for maximum comfort, offering an impressive level of construction with strong, supportive materials and a wide array of accommodating sizes.
In addition to limiting visibility under clothing, additional features on this model include double-needle edging, reinforced shoulder straps, and stretchy seamless side panels that give it a contoured design along with greater overall freedom of movement.
The Underworks Ultra Flat Chest Binder also provides excellent support in areas like the back and shoulders while helping to reduce compression along the sides, which allows trans people to maintain their ability to breathe adequately even during long periods of wear. All things considered, this chest binder offers plenty of benefits to anyone seeking a more comfortable and visually appealing body shape that represents their gender identity!
GC2B Compression Chest Binder
If you're looking for a commercial chest binder as part of your transgender body transformation, the GC2B Compression Chest Binder is a phenomenal option to consider. Designed with ease and comfort in mind, these binders are made from lightweight and breathable fabric, which provides ample support throughout the day. It also has adjustable straps that allow for a customizable fit. Plus, its two-column hook closures make it easier to take on and off.
Best of all, its ultra-soft interior lining makes it comfortable to wear for long periods of time—perfect for meetings or social events! Whatever your needs, the GC2B Compression Chest Binder is a reliable commercial chest binder that promises quality results in both looks and feels.
Econo Series Chest Binder and Tank
When it comes to chest binders that serve as an excellent addition to the transition process, Econo Series Chest Binder and Tank are quickly becoming popular choices for those looking for both comfort and modesty. Both of these types of chest binder feature compression fabric that is lightweight yet incredibly strong. It conforms softly to your body to minimize any discomfort that can be caused by chest binding.
The tank has a solid design, with a U-back and reinforced straps, so you can still have confidence even while wearing a t-shirt or dress shirt during the summer months. As far as the chest binder from this company goes, its airy material traps just enough heat to regulate temperature while providing ample ability to breathe over long periods of time being worn.
The products that this brand offers for trans people are also easy to wear under all kinds of clothing; whether it’s dressy attire or casual wear, the adjustable straps and seams make them versatile enough to serve many different needs, easily qualifying this to be one of the best binders available. Furthermore, because of their affordability and durability, both the tank and chest binder offer great value for those just starting their female-to-male journey!
T-Kingdom Chest Binder Tank Top
The T-Kingdom Chest Binder Tank Top is one of the most popular chest binders for FTM individuals looking to reduce the appearance of breast tissue and boost their self-esteem. Crafted from a breathable and flexible spandex blend material, this binder provides comfort throughout the day and locks in moisture. The top is double-layered to ensure that breast tissue is securely hidden while also keeping skin cool and dry.
The T-Kingdom Chest Binder Tank Top comes in various sizes to accommodate different body measurements and types, as well as different waist ranges. Not only does it provide an effective method of creating a flat chest, but the top is also fashionable, with several colors available that make it an ideal choice for those seeking a discreet binder option. You're guaranteed to find the right size binder in a style that you love with this binder company. This is a great option to consider on your journey to better represent your gender identity!
Ultimate Chest Binder Tank
The Ultimate Chest Binder Tank is an excellent option for those undergoing the female-to-male transition and looking to compress their chest for a cosmetic flattening effect. This type of chest binder is designed to provide maximum coverage, reaching from just above the nipple to just below the bust. It features thin straps that offer comfort and support, as well as adjustable ones that can be tightened or loosened depending on what is most comfortable for the wearer.
The tank itself offers complete coverage, so it can be worn under any clothing type with no worries of it peeking through. The breathable mesh material allows for air circulation and means you can wear it all day without worrying about excessive perspiration. No matter what your size or shape, The Ultimate Chest Binder Tank is a great choice for any trans person looking to bind safely, securely, and comfortably while minimizing feelings of gender dysphoria.
How to Measure Yourself for a Chest Binder
Tumblr media
Understanding how to yourself for a chest binder is an important step for any trans masc person which can sometimes be a bit tricky, but don't worry; with a few simple steps, most people can measure themselves accurately and get the most out of their binders.
First, it's important to note that most binders are designed for a relatively large chest size, so you'll want to bear that in mind when selecting one. To measure correctly, make sure you're wearing loose clothes and standing straight up in front of a mirror. Taking measurements is straightforward: you'll measure your chest at its widest part below your armpit, then around the area just above your nipples, as well as the distance from under your armpit to just below your breast.
Typically most binders will fit comfortably in this range, so double-check the measurement chart for more accurate sizing before purchasing! With these tips measuring yourself for a chest binder as FTM will be much easier and allow you to find something suitable and comfortable with minimal difficulty.
Tips for Wearing Chest Binder for FTM
Choose the Right Size
Finding the right size chest binder is important for many trans masc individuals, as proper binder fit helps ensure the comfort and effectiveness of the binding process. If a binder is too small, it can become very uncomfortable; too big and won't provide adequate support, which doesn't do much for eliminating gender dysphoria symptoms. There are a variety of free chest binders available to choose from, depending on your size and style preferences.
Researching the type of free chest binder you'd like to wear, along with any sizing guides that may be available online, can help ensure you pick the correct size — one that will give you comfort and security during your transition. Additionally, many binder companies allow you to try out a full-length binder or Trans-Vormer strapless binder so that you can find the best fit for your body before purchasing any more!
Put on the Binder Correctly
Wearing chest binders for FTM individuals is becoming increasingly popular in the transgender community because it's such an effective step toward representing one's true gender identity. Chest binders are tight-fitting garments designed to give a flattened physical appearance and can help with self-confidence and presentation. To get the maximum benefit from your chest binder, it is important to make sure you put it on correctly.
Before you put on your binder, ensure that you warm up and stretch—standing side stretches, arm swings, and shoveling will help reduce any discomfort and prevent muscle strain. Once your binder is on, adjust it so that it's snug but not too constricting—the goal is to use compression rather than restrict airflow or movement.
Finally, don't forget to listen to your body. If wearing a chest binder causes pain or discomfort, remove it immediately and consult with a doctor if necessary. With proper preparation and care, wearing a binder can be an empowering experience.
Wear the Binder for a Few Hours at a Time
If you are an FTM person who is looking for advice on how to safely and effectively wear a chest binder, it is important to remember that the binder should be worn for only a few hours at a time. Doing so will help ensure your comfort and safety while helping prevent any irritation or health issues that prolonged wearing of the binder can cause. Wearing a binder for too long can easily result in pain or breathing issues, so it's essential that you give your body breaks from wearing a binder.
It is also important to ensure the binder fits well and stays secure against your body. Otherwise, it could become uncomfortable or even irritate the skin, especially if you have sensitive skin. If you think you may have worn it for too long, take a break from wearing it and try to relax. Additionally, make sure to keep your chest dry so that moisture does not get trapped in the binder's fabric, as this can lead to skin irritation and even fungal infections. Following these tips will help make sure your experience with binding is as safe and enjoyable as possible!
Wash Your Binder Regularly
Tumblr media
Wearing a chest binder can be an important part of a successful transition for those who identify as trans masc, non-binary, or otherwise wish to appear to have a flat chest. Taking proper care of your binder will help ensure it is used in the most effective and comfortable way possible because a dirty binder can prevent adequate fit or cause other issues with its use. Washing your binder regularly is one key step to take in order to keep up with your binder's maintenance and make sure that it remains squeaky clean.
It's important to use only mild detergent and warm water when washing, and line drying also helps prevent damage done by protective components such as hooks or Velcro. Air drying is ideal, but if you must use a dryer, you must use no heat in order to prevent any shrinking. It's best to hang your binder up loosely, which you can do by draping it over a clothing hanger if you're strapped for space. Keep up on the laundering, and you'll be taking great care of your chest binder!
Seek Medical Advice if Necessary
When it comes to chest binding tips for FTM trans people, especially transgender youth, seeking medical advice is definitely one of the top pieces of guidance to consider. Undershirts and other chest binding solutions can limit chest movement and put additional stress on your rib cage. Your doctor will be able to provide advice about any considerations necessary for your particular circumstance when deciding if you should use certain types of binders at all. This is especially important for transgender teens, as the additional hormone therapy or gender affirmation surgery aspects come into play.
Furthermore, a physician can help you assess which binders are best suited for your body based on the size and shape of your physique, as well as what type of fabric would be most comfortable or help reduce sweating and other skin irritation issues. As with anything new in life, taking every precaution and being smart is key. Therefore, consulting with medical advice prior to securing a chest binder is essential.
How to Put On and Take off a Binder
For most FTM individuals, safely and effectively putting on and taking off a chest binder can be an essential part of their transition journey. Putting on a binder correctly ensures comfort and securely binding the chest area to reduce the visibility of breasts. Although most binders are easy to use, they can cause injury and other issues if not used correctly, especially if worn for extended periods of time.
Begin by standing up with your arms straight down and back towards the ground. Hold the binder at either end with each hand, then bring it up behind you like a cape. Wrap it around so that both ends meet in front of your body, ensuring that the tags or labels are facing outwards. Pull tightly across your chest, extending downwards below your breasts to ensure they are securely bound.
Next, add any additional fastening closures or buckles from top to bottom as desired before repeating this step on the opposite side. To remove the binder, begin by unhooking any straps or buckles from the back first; doing so first will help avoid discomfort once the compression is released from your chest area. Then follow the steps in reverse order: start by undoing one side at a time, loosening it until it pulls away comfortably before then unwrapping each side and finally taking off your binder completely. With careful application each time you put on your binder and mindful removal thereafter, you will ensure an enjoyable experience while safely achieving desired results!
Final Thoughts
Tumblr media
Chest binding is an important part of a successful transition for many of those who identify as trans masc or gender nonconforming. Finding the best binder for your body and wearing it in the most comfortable, safe way possible can help you feel more confident and secure during this time. Researching different chest binders to find the one that fits you best, putting it on correctly and wearing it for only a few hours at a time, washing the binder regularly, and seeking medical advice if necessary will help ensure your experience with chest binding is as pleasant and stress-free as possible. Remember, being safe and smart should always be your top priority!

Fr, like do any of you know how hard it is to get a binder when you have a huge chest? A lot of bigger chested trans men/masc's/non binary folk half the time (from my own personal experience and I have a feeling there's a lot of you out there like this) who just give up with binders! Sure there may be some that fit but all a binder seems to do for me is just make it look like I'm wearing some sort of push up bra! I haven't tried trans tape yet but idk if it'll work.
Also as a big chested curvy trans man/masc it's hard for me to pass a lot of the time, I mean I look androgynous to a point but not much, I look more like a butch lesbian than a man! (No hate to butch lesbians or any other lesbians in general) like it's gotten to the point where I just give up and stop trying to look masculine because it feels impossible.
Please stop saying it's really easy for trans masc/men/non binary folk to pass, for some it is, for a lot it's not.
Especially for plus size, disabled and POC trans people when the standard trans masc/man/non binary is a skinny able bodyed person with fluffy hair and is able to afford trans gear to help pass
No hate to the skinny, able bodyed trans masc/men/non binary people I love my trans community.
But people need to know that it's not easy for everyone to pass as their desired gender.
(Sorry for the rant, and sorry if I come off as rude this was just a much needed rant I needed to get off my chest, also I don't fully speak for POC trans folk or disabled trans folk, as I am able bodyed and white. Please make sure to listen to what they personally have to say about their own personal experiences. Have a nice day everyone)
can we stop pretending like it’s so super easy for trans men to pass. “oh just put on a baggy shirt and cut your hair-“ it literally doesn’t work like that and I refuse to believe you actually think it’s that easy

tw: self hatred, gender dysphoria, slight description of injuries (?)
stupid little vent ahead
i wish i could just be cis. i’ve been binding my chest almost every single day since i was like 14. it’s been 8 years. i’ve switched from binders to trans tape recently, but i’ve essentially destroyed my chest from both. in the 8 years i’ve been using binders, i’ve gone through phases of refusing to even take my binder off to sleep because it makes me so dysphoric and uncomfortable. and im pretty sure at one point ive broken a rib from overbinding. and now, using trans tape has helped, because it’s safe to sleep in. however, it’s ridiculous expensive, and as someone plus sized, it doesn’t work unless i use a decent amount. also, in learning how to use it properly, ive RIPPED my skin. RIPPED my SKIN. i’ve broken my bones, and scarred my body. because i can’t stand to look at myself with stupid tits.

If you're fat it might take a little while to notice some of the bigger changes (boobs getting bigger, hips/butt rounding out)
It is VERY common to gain weight while on HRT, this is NOT a bad thing and you can choose whether or not you wish to do something to maintain a lower weight (I do not)
Particularly if you're fat and MtF like I am, you'll probably have noticeable fat distribution in the following areas first: your cheeks and jawline (my face got a LOT rounder in the 2 years ive been on E), your neck (nothing wrong with something under the chin! Keep in mind that this CAN make shaving a bit harder. I highly recommend a multi-bladed Foil Razor as they shave very close and are very skin safe meaning multiple passes are less likely to cut you), your stomach/midsection (they'll get a wider! When my tits started growing a lot more the fat on the sides was particularly more noticeable because they have TITS to be attached to now!)
LEARN YOUR MEASUREMENTS! I cannot stress this enough ESPECIALLY as a fat girl. Take any sort of tape measure and look up a guide to measuring your bust and waistline, length is a little less important to me but you might want to get that too! As the original post says High-waisted pants are a GAME CHANGER to early outfits. Learning your measurements will help you better check online fit charts and get a general sense of what women's sizes might fit you. For example: I found out that depending on the cut/brand of pants I wear a size 26-32. Thats some decent variation! Plus size brands will always be closer to what you measure, look up plus size brands in your part of the world and keep an eye out for them at thrift stores!
Try out clothes! I recently got some tank tops and they make me feel amazing. Variety will help you a ton in finding out what works for you!
DONT COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHER TRANS WOMEN/TRANSFEMS! I know that especially with things like depression and anxiety its very hard not to, but you're YOU and thats all you'll ever need to be. You probably won't look like a thin anime girl when your transition is far enough along for you to notice the big sweeping changes, but you'll probably look a lot more like some women in your family, or at least someone's hot mom <3
I could think of dozens more tips for the fat girls out there but that would be SO much typing. Transitioning as someone well above 250lbs has been a lot of things including both wonderful and sometimes very isolating. But 2 years in and I feel more like myself than I ever have before, double chin and all. This goes the same for trans women/transfems who dont want to take hormones or dont want to conform to the societal idea of "woman", its hard out here for us big gals, but we got each other <3 I don't see a lot of advice out there aimed at fat people when it comes to transitioning. As one myself, I just wanted to put out some things that I seriously wish someone could have told me when I started. Trying to go by advice and tips given exclusively by thin people isnt BAD per say, but it can be very helpful to have a perspective that might be a little closer to your own. Big girls stronger than the world, I love you all <3
Sex Ed Time
ok I'm gonna tell you about some things that might happen if you are transitioning m->f. this is not a comprehensive list just my own experience, be sure to do your own research I just really wanted to voice how this affects me because I think open discussion about this type of stuff is just more helpful for everyone rather than keeping it private
BOOBS HURT WHEN THEY GROW
your sex drive (libido) will probably go down a lot
facial hair is very hard to get rid of
my go-to gender affirming clothing is high-waisted jeans. I suggest going to a goodwill or some sort of cheap store that lets you try on clothes to figure out what you like
muscle mass will go down, fat will be redistributed
boobs do all sorts of crazy stuff when you run / exercise
overtime your skin will get softer, you also might smell nicer, and I've been told it can thin body hair but I don't really see it all that much 🤷
your brain chemistry can change when you reduce testosterone and increase estrogen, there are lots of factors that contribute toward any changes to your personality, but hormones can have an impact as well. for me this is a good thing because I struggle with allowing myself to feel emotions sometimes, no matter how hard I tried I was never really able to get myself to cry. I've gotten closer to being able to cry since I started transitioning though and that makes me very happy
this is a slow process that can take several years, ultimately you're going to be in your body for several years regardless, so if this is something you want it's definitely something you should try to pursue if possible. the time will pass anyways, and it does feel nice to work towards something that can make you happier.
also this is very important, you don't need to do any sort of hormone replacement therapy in order to be trans. not everybody can access HRT, and for those who can access it, not everybody wants to take on all the changes that come with treatments. you don't have to chemically or physically change your body in any way in order to deserve respect
all right that's all I have for right now feel free to add anything in the comments, I would especially like to hear from trans men what your experiences have been, I think openly talking about these types of things can really help some people

What is the least risky/physically damaging way of chestbinding that doesnt require surgery?
I'm a physically disabled, masc-presenting nonbinary person who quite honestly experiences little to no body dysphoria (from what I understand), but would still love to have a flatter chest so I can be perceived as more masculine/androgynous. I worry that wearing a binder could further damage my back/ribcage thanks to my disability (essentially I have a condition that makes my bones more fragile than they should be, which in turn has caused other problems over the years, such as frequent bone fractures, scoliosis, etc. Also I'm a wheelchair user.) I dont want to commit to something as serious as top surgery though
What should I do? What are some other good options?
PS. I dont expect any medical advice or expertise, of course, just wondering what your overall thoughts are. Hopefully all that made sense. Also i'd love to hear from anyone else who maybe relates to my situation, as I currently feel pretty alone in this. Anything is appreciated, thank you very much <3
hey i understand and i'm glad you're reaching out about this, it's really important to take your health into consideration as a disabled person, that's why i stopped binding, myself. i have hypermobile joints and binding was causing all kinds of problems with shifting things out of place, i also have fibromyalgia and it was generally just causing me pain that i didn't need
i'm glad to hear that you don't have a lot of chest dysphoria, what i might recommend for someone in your position depending on your size is a well fitting but not too tight sports bra with no built in cups- i used to wear sports bras a lot and after a while you tend to not notice them if you get ones that are fitted to your body shape well enough. sports bras are also pretty plus size friendly as well, like i said, just prioritize finding ones with a flat front and don't have any cups or seams sewn in to make a typical bra cup shape
trans tape could also potentially be an option for you, though i do not have experience with it, as i am very fat and have a large chest. what works for a lot of people is learning how to layer different types of clothing- i used to wear a lot of under shirts, like the types you can get in the men's underwear section, underneath t-shirts under a button-up shirt, that kind of thing. the more layers you create, the harder it is to see exactly what's going on, you hide the shapes more easily, and so on. you can play with different fabrics and types of clothing as well, you may find that sweaters suit you better, or maybe hyper masculine "worker" blue collar aesthetics, who knows
those would be my suggestions, but anyone else who has any input for binding while disabled, feel free to give us your input, we'd love to hear from you! take care, i hope you can figure something out and play with your gender in a way that's accessible to you and your health =) have a great day!
